DEATHS
Died—December 25, 1861, of pneumonia, at
Camp Beauregard, Ky., William B. Shelton, eldest son of
Joseph and Nancy J. Shelton. He
was born near Greensborough,
N. C., November 18, 1842, where he resided until the year 1857,
when in company with his parents he removed to Drew county, Ark., where he
remained until Nov. 1st, 1862, [editor’s note: this was
undoubtedly supposed to be 1861 as Nov. 1st, 1862 was not only prior
to his enlistment, but had in fact not yet occurred.] when he
volunteered as a soldier for the defence [sic] of his
country. He was a true and faithful
soldier while he lived to serve his country, and now that he is gone, we trust
that he rests in peace, where wars are no more.
