Died—At Richmond, July 20th,
1862, of his wounds, Serg’t. R. A. L. Hatrick, a member of Co. 10th Ga. Reg’t., aged about 29 years.
The
death of so excellent a young man deserves more than a passing notice. He was a native of Guilford county, N. C.,
but for the last eight years had made his home in Columbia county, Ga. His distinguishing characteristics were great
energy and perseverance in whatever he undertook, together with fine social
qualities, which ever gained for him the esteem and good will of all with whom
he came in contact. In his adopted
village he had made many warm friends, who bitterly mourn his untimely
fate. At home, he was an especial
favorite. His friends will long miss his
cheerful face and merry laugh. Among the
first to respond to the call of his country for volunteers, nobly has he
sacrificed his life in her defence. [sic] He was a consistent member of the M. E,
Church, and his friends have sweet consolation in believing that his spirit is
now at rest. His sufferings, though long
and severe, were borne without a murmur of complaint, with a firm reliance on
Jesus he was enabled to say, Thy will, not mine be done, Oh Lord.
