GEORGIA ENTERPRISES—The Macon Telegraph says the Messrs.
Nobles, of Rome, are now busily engaged in manufacturing Rifled Cannon, from
Round Mountain ore, for the Confederate States.
The Confederate Government have [sic] contracted with them for 27 field
pieces, and a “Minnie Rifle bullet Press” which will turn out 70 balls per
minute. This last job was declined by
all the other Foundries in the South because of their inability to make
it. It is now nearly finished. Gov. Brown is about to perfect a contract
with them for 24 field pieces, with carriages and caissons, for the Artillery
Battalion of the 4th Brigade.
Messrs. Noble have also completed a beautiful model cannon—a small
“Baby-Waker” for the city of Columbus.
