GREAT
VICTORY!
Severe
battles were fought on Thursday last, and on Sunday, near Manassas, in both of which Southern troops
were triumphant. On Sunday, it appears
the enemy suffered a complete route, and were driven
precipitately from the field.
Our
victory was glorious, but has been obtained at a great price, the loss of many
of our valuable men. We give below all
the particulars we can obtain. The
account of the battle on Thursday is from the Richmond Dispatch; that of Sunday
is from an extra of the Standard and from the Charlotte Bulletin, received by
them by telegraph.
We
learn verbally, from the report of travelers on the cars yesterday, that Col.
Fisher, whose regiment had just joined the Confederate army, was among the
slain, and also Capt. York.
