                                       FAYETTEVILLE ARSENAL

            It will be a source of great joy to every North Carolinian to learn that the Arsenal at Fayetteville is in the hands of our volunteers, taken without the spilling of blood.  On last Monday a force of 1,027 volunteers marched to the Arsenal, demanded its immediate surrender, which, with but little delay, was granted.

            The Arsenal contained 6,000 Pistols, 1,000 kegs Powder, 37,000 stand of arms, together with large amounts of shells and shots, all in good order.

            There were in the Arsenal, at the time of surrender, sixty U. S. soldiers commanded by “Capt. J. A. J. Bradford, of the Ordnance Corps,” and not, (says the Fayetteville Observer,) “Brevet Major Anderson.  The latter commands the company of Artillery stationed here at the request of the citizens, for protection of the Arsenal, and is subject to the call, for that purpose, of Captain Bradford.”
