Vote of Thanks.
Fort Macon, N. C., May 10th,
1861
At a meeting
of the Guilford Grays, the undersigned were appointed a committee to return the
unanimous vote of thanks of the Company to the citizens of Guilford for the
many manifestations of patriotic kindness and generosity of which we have been
the recipients since our arrival at Fort Macon.
We perform this duty with much pleasure, and hereby beg to assure the
citizens of our beloved Old County that the heart of every member of the Grays
will ever warm with gratitude and affection at the remembrance of these many
proofs of their interest and sympathy.
And especially will we cherish the recollection of the LADIES in these
kind efforts to secure our comfort and ease in the present just resistance to
wicked coercion. We feel assured that
when the history of these troublous times shall have been written, whatever may
be the issue, their noble deeds of self-denying patriotism shall occupy a page
not less bright than that which records the bravery and devotion of the mothers
of ’76.
We add a
list of the several contributions already received:
3 boxes
provisions from ladies of Greensborough.
80 Fatigue
jackets from ladies of Greensborough.
1 box
provisions from Archd. Wilson, and ladies of Summerfield.
2 boxes
clothing, bedding, & c. from ladies of High Point.
1 box hams
from D. Brown.
