Mr. Editor:--Permit me through your
columns, to return my thanks to the Ladies of High Point for their timely and
generous present of a large quantity of clothing, &c., &c., to the
needy of the 33d Regiment, this day received.
Soldiers are ever gratified when
they know they are remembered by Ladies, but when they are made to feel by such
unmistakable evidences that their sufferings, and trials are appreciated and
provided for by the daughters of the State, it serves them to encounter, yet
more sufferings and greater trials, nay even death itself, with a stout heart,
to protect the hearths and fire sides of such benefactors from invasion by a
ruthless foe.
I feel permitted to say, from their
soldierly-like bearing both in Camp and in the battle field, the Ladies of High
Point, and others who have favored the Regiment will never regret their
kindness.
With high respect,
R. F. HOKE, Lt. Col. Com’dg
