Tribute of Respect
At
a meeting of Company E, 27th Regt. N. C. Infantry, the following
preamble and resolutions were unanimously adopted:
WHEREAS,
It has pleased God in His wisdom and providence to remove from our midst, our
comrade in arms, Wm. C. Clapp, who died at his father’s residence in Guilford
county, N. C. August 3rd 1862, aged 21 years, 1 month and ten
days. Therefore,
Resolved, That in his death the south
has lost a true and noble son, and defender of her soil, whose devotion to his
country, has been sealed by his life; that we feel, that we have lost a
companion, whose duty was performed on all occasions, and whose qualities, both
of head and heart, endeared him to us.
Resolved, That we tender to the family
and friends of our comrade, our sincere and heartfelt sympathy, in this, their
sad bereavement, and assure them, that we shall ever cherish his memory.
