For the Patriot
Tribute of Respect
Centre Grove Lodge, Nov. 28th, 1862
WHEREAS, It has pleased Almighty God, in His all wise Providence, to remove from time to eternity, our late brother, Wesley W. Underwood, who was a soldier in the Confederate Army, and received a wound in the Sharpsburg Battle which caused his death, and thus cut off in the prime of life, one who with us enjoyed the confidence and esteem of us all. Therefore:
Resolved, That while we bow in humble submission to the will of Him who hath the power to give and to take away, we cannot but lament our sad bereavement.
Resolved, That we offer our warmest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased, and while they have lost a kind husband and neighbor, we too have lost a worthy and faithful brother, and will freely mingle our tears with theirs, on a common altar of grief, we would point them to that eternal source which alone is the giver of all good gifts and graces.
Resolved, That we wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days.
Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the companion of the deceased, and also to the Greensboro Patriot with a request for publication.
BY ORDER OF THE Lodge,
SAMUEL WHITT, Com.
B. M. LEWIS, Com.
L. J. HARRIS, Com.
