BATTLE OF NEWBERN.—James Sinclair, lately Colonel of the 35th
Regiment, N.C.V., takes issue in some important point with the official report
of General L. O’B. Branch, concerning the battle of Newbern, and pledges
himself to prove, as soon as circumstances permit investigation, “that the
battle of Newbern was lost, 1st. by drunkenness, 2d. by
incompetency, 3rd. personal lack of courage and presence of mind in
the presence of the enemy.—Pet. Express.”
