            THE 4TH N. C. REGIMENT—A letter from Portsmouth, Va., 12th inst, in the Richmond Examiner, says that “The Fourth North Carolina Regiment came down to Suffolk, from Gettysburg, yesterday, and are in camp there.  They are solicitous to have orders Richmond-ward, and thence to the Peninsula to join the gallant First, which is said to have led in the late battle here.”

            TROOPS—The Person Grays, Capt. Dillahay, and the McDowell Boys, Capt. Burgin, arrived at Raleigh on Thursday evening.  The Person Grays went on the Gettysburg.

            A British brig of 400 tons came into Beaufort Harbor on Monday to obtain a cargo of naval stores.  She will get the cargo.  Our boys at Fort Macon, when they first saw her thought they might get a chance for a brush, but the sight of British colors dispelled the hope.

            Hon. John Bell spoke on the 5th inst., at Knoxville, Tenn., to the Louisiana troops, urging war to the death against the North, declaring that five million of soldiers cannot conquer the South.

            It is said that Lincoln will demand of his Congress an appropriation of $150,000,000 for the war.

            The City council of Richmond has purchased a residence for President Davis, at $50,000.

            OLD SURRY—This County has about 1500 voters and has ready for service about 500 volunteers.
