DEATH OF MAJ. J. T. DEAN
A Splendid Gentleman of the Toney Creek Section
Toney Creek, Feb. 20- Maj. John Thomas Dean died today at his residence near Toney Creek from paralysis. He has been in bad health for some years, but was not considered dangerous until for the last few days. On yesterday he was stricken and died this morning at 8 o’clock.
Maj. Dean was born and reared near Dean’s Station. He served in the old Fourth Regiment, S. C. Volunteers, commanding a company in that regiment. After serving twelve months the regiment was disbanded and he joined a cavalry command, known as the 19th battalion.
Fifty years ago he married Miss Anna Poore, who with a son, John T. Dean, Jr., survive him. He was 77 years old. Maj. Dean was a gentleman of the “old school.” Courtly, high minded and honorable, he died without an enemy.
He will be buried tomorrow at Shady Grove church, of which he was a consistent member.
