TEXAS-The
Governor has issued his proclamation ordering the annual election on the first
Monday in August, for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Commissioner of the
General Land Office and Representatives in the Congress of the Confederate
States.
The
Galveston News, of the 22d ult., says:
Mr.
Samuel B. Brigham, an old and highly esteemed merchant of Matagorda, died there
suddenly on the 4th inst.
Capt.
Buguor’s company of infantry, C. S. A., from San Antonio, have arrived
at Camp Verde and gone to work to repair the
damage wantonly done by Capt. Caldwell’s company of 1st Infantry, U.
S. A., when they left the post.
Col.
Van Dorn, C. S. A., accompanied by Lieut. Col. Luckett
and Lieut. Keyworth, arrived here on last evening’s
train from Houston. Lieut. Col. Luckett
is State Quartermaster, by convention appointment. Col. Van Dorn, we understand, is appointed a
Brigadier General in the C. S. Army, and to hold command in this State.
