DEATH OF A TEXAS SOLDIER
About two weeks ago, a Texas soldier, private Josiah Hughes, of Co. E, Fourth Texas Regiment arrived here from the hospital in Danville, having a furlough of sixty days. When he reached the Sykes House he was in a very feeble condition, and though the worthy proprietor of the Hotel did everything in his power for the relief of the suffering soldier, he died on Saturday last. His remains were interred in the Methodist burying ground. The authorities at Danville are very good to give furloughs and discharges to sick soldiers just as they are ready to die. We comment them for their kindness.
