REFUSING TO TAKE CONFEDERATE MONEY
A
citizen of Fauquier, named C. W. Hoffman, was arrested yesterday at
Charlottesville, Va., and sent to Richmond for refusing to take Confederate
money. Hoffman is a German, and formerly
lived in the North. He came over from
Fauquier with a load of something to sell, and first attracted notice by his
announcement that he would take nothing but Virginia Bank notes, and going to
the town Treasurer of Charlottesville and demanding that description of
currency in exchange for an amount of corporation which he held. The Provost Marshall here will dispose of the
case as justice may seem to require.—Richmond
