BOARD
OF EXEMPTION
The
Board appointed under the new Military law to take cognizance of all
applications for exemption from Military service in the Militia, has been in
session two or three days this week. The
Board is composed of Jno. C. Cohoon,
Chairman of the County Court, who has associated with him Dr. Geo. A. Glover
and A. H. Jones, Esq. About 50 persons
have been exempt for various causes.
Seven physicians have been exempt, their services being needed in the
different neighborhoods, viz: Doctors Browne, Corbin,
Parker, I. Jordan, W. T. Jordan, Tynes, and Goodman.
Among those who
have been exempted are several members of the Society of Friends.
There will
scarcely be left, more than one good company of Militia in the county.
Since the above
was in type, we learn that Gen. Randolph has quashed the whole proceedings of
the Board of Exemption and ordered all who have been exempted back into the
ranks. We presume there has been some
informality in the proceedings but the particulars we have not learned.
