THE
MILITIA DRAFT
On Saturday last
34 men were drafted from the militia of Nansemond for service on the
river. The detachment selected Capt. E.
L. Ballard to command them, which appointment was confirmed by Col. Copeland,
and they were mustered into the service.
Jas. W. Ames volunteered, taking the place of one who was drafted and
was appointed Orderly Sergeant. There
will be no more stealing negroes now.
