A
COURAGEOUS VIRGINIAN—It is reported that Capt. Wm. H. Worth, of Pittsylvania,
while on a solitary scouting expedition, a day or two since, in the
neighborhood of Yorktown, unconsciously got inside of the enemy’s pickets, and
was surprised by two men in ambush, who started up in his rear and commanded
him to surrender. Captain W. turned his
horse and approached them, which led them to believe that he was about to obey
the command. This however he never dreamed
of; but suddenly drawing his pistol, shot first one and then the other,
dead. It is stated that the two luckless
Yankees were mounted upon mules. The
report seems to be well authenticated, and those who are acquainted with the
brave reputation of Capt. W. can readily believe it.
