THE
COTTON LOAN—Some editors put the Cotton loan at two millions of bales. It begins to look like it. Marengo county is estimated at 20,000 bales. Here is the way they are doing it in Georgia:
The Milledgeville,
Ga., Recorder says that Col. L. T. Jordan, of Baldwin county, loans one
thousand bales of cotton to the Confederate Government.
The
planters of Bibb county, Ga., have subscribed 5,000 bales of cotton to the
Confederate loan, and the Telegraph says they will increase it to six or seven
thousand. Colonel LeRoy
Napier has subscribed $30,000 and the whole of his growing crop, at more than
500 bales.
