Outrageous Cruelty

Gen. Tilghman delivered a speech in Jackson, Miss., reciting the particulars of his treatment while a prisoner in the hands of the Yankees.  He said that Gen. Buckner and himself were thrown into a dungeon thirty feet under ground and for four and a half months were excluded the light of day, and not permitted to exchange a word with any living soul.  The day of reckoning for such barbarism is at hand.

The General though that we would have peace in less than six months, the North being sick of the war.
