GUNS
CAPTURED AT HANNIBAL, MO.—The St. Louis News of Wednesday week says:
We
learn from a gentleman direct form Hannibal in this State, that the Home Guards
at the city yesterday captured several small cannon, together with patterns for
shot and shell, in a foundry where ordnance had been cast for purposes hostile
to the General Government. Last week two
pieces of cannon made at ship foundry were concealed in a wagon, covered with
straw, and shipped to Chillicothe. The
Hannibal Home Guards, having reason to suspect that these guns were intended
for service against the government, yesterday searched the foundry with the
result above stated. There was no
resistance and no excitement attending this affair.
