MAJ.
SIMONTON.—Of those who fell in the late battle near Richmond, none was more
worthy or gallant than Maj. Absalom … Simonton, of this State. Maj. Simonton was formerly a Captain in the 4th
regiment State troops, but had been promoted to Major in the same
regiment. He was a member of the last
Legislature from Iredell county, where, in common with his numerous friends in
other parts of the State, his death will be deeply lamented.—Raleigh Standard.
