Col. Jesse McGee, one of the most prominent and influential citizens of Savannah Township in this County, died at his residence on Saturday, 17^th inst., after an illness of several months from heart disease. Col. McGee was sixty-seven years of age at the time of his death. He was an industrious and energetic farmer, whose success proves the judgment which characterized his work. He was a true and valuable citizen, always ready to do his duty to his country. Although with the rank of Colonel at the beginning of the war, he promptly volunteered as a private in Company “B” of the Fourth Regiment, in which capacity he served with fidelity until the reorganization in 1862, when he was discharged on account of deafness. He then entered the State militia service, and was elected Captain, his Company being assigned to service on the coast, where he remained to the close of the war. Col. McGee was an upright and just man. He was for many years a useful member of Good Hope Presbyterian Church, in this County. His remains were interred in the Cross Roads cemetery, after appropriate funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. H. King. Col. McGee leaves a wife and five children, together with a host of relatives and friends, who mourn his death.
