Manassas Gap Junction, May 24

We have escaped safely from Alexandria. The famous Col. Ellsworth, of the N. York Zouaves (Pet Lambs), entered the Marshall House to-day, and attempted to lower a Confederate Flag, which was flying over the building. Mr. Jackson, the proprietor, resented the injury, and shot Ellsworth, killing him instantly. Jackson was afterwards cut to pieces by the saber bayonets of the Zouaves. He died nobly defending his flag, and Virginia should erect a monument to his memory.

HARPER’S FERRY—A letter says that there are 12,000 men at this place.
