COINCIDENCE- It is rather a singular coincidence that the day appointed as a day of general fasting and prayer throughout the Confederate States- prayer for the success of our arms in a conflict with the United States- is also the birth-day of Gen. Scott, the General-in-Chief of the armies against which we contend. On that day Gen. Scott will be 75 years of age.

Another curious coincidence of the war is the fact that the bombardment of Fort Sumpter was commenced on the 12^th of April, the birthday of Henry Clay; whilst the fort surrendered on the 13^th, the birthday of Thomas Jefferson.

It is also remarkable that the only lives lost at Charleston were sacrificed in a salute of the Federal flag when it was taken down.

It is equally singular that the man who tore down the Confederate flag, and the man who raised the Federal flag in Alexandria, both lost their lives in the attempt.
